Prince Estate Shares Unreleased Version Of ‘I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man’

The Prince Estate shared the previously unreleased original version of Prince‘s “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” on July 16.

The stripped-down version will be part of the upcoming reissue of Prince’s 1987 double-album Sign O’ the Times.

After recording the original version at Hollywood Sound Recorders, Studio A on May 23, 1979, Prince did the song again in 1986 while working on his Dream Factory and Crystal Ball using the same verses and chorus on both renditions. The projects later got morphed into Sing O’ the Times, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200.

The song in the album is lengthier due to the addition of a guitar solo and instrumental breaks. According to a press statement, “I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man” is “the oldest recording” found on the upcoming reissue.

The Sign O’ the Times reissue, due out on September 25, will feature more than 45 unreleased studio recordings, a disc compiling the album’s mixes, edits and B-sides, will also contain a 1987 live gig in Utrecht, and a concert film from Prince’s New Year’s Eve 1987 show at Paisley Park.

Rihanna, Jay-Z & More Join Call For Justice For Danroy Henry

Danroy “DJ” Henry

Rihanna, Jay-Z, Pharrell Williams, and others have asked the Department of Justice to re-examine the killing of Danroy “DJ” Henry, a black student at Pace University who was shot dead by a white police officer in 2010.

In a letter addressed to U.S. Attorney General William Barr, the group has asked the Department of Justice to reevaluate whether racial discrimination was the reason behind Henry’s death.

“If it did… deliver the justice that restores this young man’s reputation, while giving hope to other young Black men who are just like him and desperate for change,” the letter says.

On October 17, 2010, police were called to respond to a fight outside a Westchester County sports bar where Henry, a 20-year-old college football player, was out celebrating with his teammates.

According to news reports, Henry was unarmed and in his car when officer Aaron Hess approached him. Hess claims that Henry sped towards the officer in his car, at which point Hess shot Henry.

Henry’s family filed a civil lawsuit against Hess and another officer, alleging that they pulled Henry from the car, handcuffed him and left him on the ground to bleed to death.

Megan Thee Stallion Clears The Air, She Was Not Arrested… She Was Shot!

MEGAN THEE STALLION says she was shot multiple times in Hollywood last weekend. It supposedly went down after she was at a party at KYLIE JENNER’s house with rapper TORY LANEZ.

Here’s what we know: Tory was arrested during a shots fired investigation at about 4:30 A.M. Sunday. He was booked for having a concealed firearm, but it’s unclear if he was actually doing any shooting.

Megan Thee Stallion took to Instagram to clarify what went down over the weekend after she left Kylie Jenner’s house party.

Megan said, “The narrative that is being reported about Sunday’s morning events are innacurrate and I’d like to set the record straight. On Sunday morning, I suffered gunshot wounds, as a result of a crime that was committed against me and done with intention to physically harm me. I was never arrested, the police officers drove me to the hospital where I underwent surgery to remove the bullets. I’m incredibly grateful to be alive and that I’m expected to make a full recovery, but it was important for me to clarify the details about this traumatic night. I’m currently focused on my recovery, so I can return back to my life and back to making music as soon as possible.”

Last year, Kygo released a remix of Whitney Houston‘s cover of the 1986 Steve Winwood hit, “Higher Love,” using 30-year-old archival Whitney vocals and remastered them into a brand-new track. The song went on to hit No. 1 on Billboard‘s Dance Clubs Songs chart.

Justin Timberlake Joins Call For Removal Of Confederate Statues

Justin Timberlake added his voice to the growing demand for the removal of confederate monuments and memorabilia amid national anti-racism protests.

Timberlake wrote on Instagram that his home state of Tennessee also happens to be the home of many confederate monuments.

According to him, people protest racism in America because the country was built by men who believed in and benefited from racism.

“There are roughly 1,848 confederate statues of in the US. More than half are in The South, and it’s not acceptable. No one should be protecting the legacies of confederate leaders and slave owners,” the 39 year-old singer added.

In his opinion, to move forward, these monuments must come down.

“Removing these statues does not erase our country’s vile history of oppression – removing them is a symbol of respect for Black people in America and it’s a step towards progress and actual equality for all,” Timberlake wrote.
