Beyoncé, Rihanna, & More Call For End To SARS In Nigeria

Beyoncé, Rihanna and several other musicians, including Missy Elliott, Big Sean and Burna Roy are tweeting out the #EndSARS hashtag, stepping up the call to end police brutality in Nigeria.

The widespread move by the artists and people from several walks of life is intended to urge the Nigerian government to break-up the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) after the unit of the Nigerian police beat a man to death and recent clashes between protesters and police over the demand for disbanding SARS.

“I am heartbroken to see the senseless brutality taking place in Nigeria. There has to be an end to SARS,” Beyoncé wrote on Instagram. “We have been working on partnerships with youth organizations to support those protesting for change.”

She added, “We are collaborating with coalitions to provide emergency healthcare, food and shelter. To our Nigerian sisters and brothers, we stand by you.”

Rihanna condemned “torture and brutalization” by those “put in place to protect.”

According to a CNN report, protests in the capital of Lagos got bloody on Tuesday amid a state-wide curfew after two weeks of ongoing street demonstrations.

Stevie Wonder Releases Two New Songs, Announces Departure From Motown

Stevie Wonder released two new songs on Tuesday and also announced during a press conference that he is leaving Motown Records, with whom he signed as a recording artist nearly 60 years ago when he was just 11-year old.

Both songs are out through Wonder’s new label, What The Fuss Records, distributed through Universal Music Group’s Republic Records.

“Can’t Put It In The Hands Of Fate,” one of the new songs, features Rapsody, Cordae, Chika, and Busta Rhymes. The other song, “Where Is Our Love Song,” features Gary Clark Jr.

All proceeds from “Where Is Our Love Song” will benefit Feeding America, Wonder said.

He explained that “Can’t Put It In the Hands of Fate” was a song originally about a relationship, but then he updated the lyrics after “thinking about where we (are) in the world and thinking about how this is the most crucial time.”

“Change is right now. We can’t put it into the hands of fate. Ain’t nobody got time to wait,” he said. “We can’t put it the hands of fate finding a cure for this dreadful virus. We got to get on our knees and pray or whatever you do.”

The legend also announced during the conference that he “was blessed with a new kidney” last December.

“I feel great. My voice feels great. I feel like I’m about 40 right now and I just thank everyone for the prayers and the love,” Wonder added.

Bebe Rexha Drops ‘Baby, I’m Jealous’ Featuring Doja Cat

Bebe Rexha has dropped a new single, “Baby, I’m Jealous,” featuring Doja Cat.

“Baby, I’m jealous/Of the pictures that you like,” Rexha sings in the chorus. “Baby, I’m jealous/Of the girls with lighter eyes/Baby, I’m jealous/And I know that ain’t right.”

“‘Baby, I’m Jealous’ is a song I wrote about embracing my insecurities,” Rexha told Complex. “It’s about the way social media has heightened my jealousy which can affect how I feel about myself.”

“We are constantly flooded with the highlights of other people’s lives, and at times I find myself comparing my worth and beauty to others,” she added. “It’s part of the human process to experience jealousy-ultimately, this is an anthem to embrace those feelings as a form of empowerment.”

“Baby, I’m a bad bitch/If he fiendin’ he’ll prolly get a catfish,” Doja raps. “Keep him dreamin’ to pull up on a nap, shit/I don’t even be askin’ him, who dat chick?”

The song is Rexha’s first new music of this year and a follow-up to last year’s “You Can’t Stop the Girl.” She has been working on the follow-up to her debut studio album, 2018’s Expectations.

Meanwhile, Doja, who dropped her second studio album Hot Pink back last year, is set to perform at the Billboard Music Awards on October 14.
